  • “The Widow of Zarephath” is an illustration done for the book, Dear Divine Daughter. It is about the woman starving in Zarephath who, when entreated by Elijah the prophet, exercised faith in feeding him her last meal. In recognition of her sacrifice, the Lord blessed her that her cruse of oil would never fail whilst the famine lasted. As a Gentile in desperate times this woman is simply remarkable. Firstly she was Phoenician, meaning she was not of God’s covenant people. She had no obligation to serve this Israeli prophet nor any claim on his god for blessings. Despite this, she chose to give all she had to the Lord, and He, in turn, chose to bless her with sustenance. I depicted this unnamed woman holding her blessing from the Lord to remind us to hold on to our faith, even in times of great turmoil.
